About the Clinic
Quadra Island Medical Clinic is a family practice clinic that provides primary care to its registered patients as well as medical services to others needing care. It is currently run by the Quadra Island Health Society (QIHS). In conjunction with QIHS and Island Health, community health services are provided to all residents of Quadra Island and the outer islands. These include services that assist individuals in health prevention, maintenance, and monitoring illness.

Meet the Team
Dr. Steve Hughes CCFP MRCGP
Dr. Hughes came to Quadra in 2019 from Mission BC. He practiced in Mission from 2014 -2019 and was chief of hospital medical staff as well as a preceptor to doctors and interns. He originally trained and qualified in England. He went on to practice family medicine in a rural community from 1991-2014. Special interests include care of the elderly, minor surgery and musculoskeletal medicine.
He is married to Tina and has three grown children. Hobbies include hiking, kayaking, shooting and looking for decent beer.
Anya Bruhn, Registered Social Worker
Anya joined the QIMC team Spring 2023 as part of the Primary Care Network (Supporting QIMC, Harbourside Medical and Cortes Medical Clinic). Originally from Saltspring and Saturna Island, Anya moved to Quadra Island in 2022 with her partner. Anya graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelors of Social Work and practices as a Registered Social Worker with the BC College of Social Workers.
Prior to joining the QIMC team, Anya worked at Campbell River Hospital Acute Care, Community Health Services and Mental health and Substance use. Anya has a particular interest in aging in place, advanced care planning, health care system navigation and financial/disability navigation. When not working, Anya is most likely found in her garden with her Chocolate Lab Stanley and cats Bernie and Fernie.
FNP, Monica Dunlop
Monica is proudly joining the QIMC team upon graduation as our new Family Nurse Practitioner. While working as a Registered Nurse, she spent the majority of her career providing emergency and community care for remote communities in the Northwest Territories, Yukon and throughout rural BC. Prior to graduation, she spent the majority of her practicums in various emergency departments in downtown Vancouver. Monica is passionate about patient education, advocacy, sexual health and urgent health care access.
A new resident to the Island, she is joined by her partner Taylor Anderson. They are both looking forward to integrating into the community, becoming more involved with music, fishing and learning about sustainable living.
Jason Alessio, Clinical Pharmacist
Jason joined QIMC at the end of 2023 as the Clinical Pharmacist for the Primary Care Network. He rotates through various clinics on Quadra and Campbell River, and is at QIMC once every 2 weeks. Previous to this role he worked in the community setting in a variety of locations across BC. He has his BSc Pharmacy, and will soon be completing a MSc Public Health. His interests include providing a patient-centered approach to medical management, as well as optimizing current and new therapies to provide the most benefit for patients.
He and his wife moved to Campbell River in 2023 and hobbies include biking, hiking, camping, skiing, and surfing.
