About the Clinic

Quadra Island Medical Clinic is a family practice clinic that provides primary care to its registered patients as well as medical services to others needing care. It is currently run by the Quadra Island Health Society (QIHS).  In conjunction with QIHS and Island Health, community health services are provided to all residents of Quadra Island and the outer islands. These include services that assist individuals in health prevention, maintaining health, and monitoring illness. Our clinic medical office assistances (MOA’s) are Annik Dumouchel, Leah Iwamoto, Anya Davis, Sandra  Riley and Tina Hughes.  Our full-time health team includes Pat Peterson, Family Nurse Practitioner and Dr. Steve Hughes, General Practitioner.

About Our Medical Staff

Dr. Steve Hughes

Dr. Hughes came to Quadra in 2019 from Mission BC. He practiced in Mission from 2014 -2019 and was chief of hospital medical staff as well as a preceptor to doctors and interns. He originally trained and qualified in England. He went on to practice family medicine in a rural community from 1991-2014. Special interests include care of the elderly, minor surgery and musculoskeletal medicine.

He is married to Tina and has three grown children. Hobbies include hiking, kayaking, shooting and looking for “decent” beer.

Pat Peterson

Pat has been a registered nurse since 1982 and practiced in a variety of hospital settings (chiefly critical care) until moving to Salt Spring Island in 1998. She received her Master’s in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner stream) in 2010 and went on to work in primary care on Cortes Island before settling on Quadra in 2013. She is the NP for all of Quadra. While she has her own roster of patients, she is heavily involved in community work and collaborates with Quadra Circle and all health practitioners.

When not working, Pat is found either on the water, the trail, on the slopes or at home in her garden. She and her husband Steve love to travel. They have a son, Eric (who has inherited their travel bug) as well as a variety of animals.
